Product Description
The Calathea Elgergrass, also known as the Calathea Rufibarba, is a gorgeous member of the Marantaceae family. The Calathea Elgergrass stands out for its many leaves, which give the plant a full shape. The leaves range from dark green to light green, are long and have serrated edges. As the Calathea closes its leaves in the evening, the burgundy red undersides come into view.
Care & tips for the Calathea Elgergrass - 70cm
Calatheas are generally known as easy plants, and the Calathea Elgergrass is no exception. Give it a good spot and the right amount of water and the Calathea will soon be thriving in your home.
How much water does the Calathea Elgergrass - 70cm need?
The soil of the Calathea Elgergrass can stay slightly moist at all times. Just be careful not to overwater the plant. Excess water can collect at the bottom of the pot around the roots and cause root rot. Root rot can mean your Calathea doesn't last much longer, and that would be a real shame.
We recommend pushing two fingers deep into the soil before every watering to check whether the Calathea is ready for more water. If it's dry there, the plant can have water. If the soil is still wet from the last watering, we recommend holding off.
How much light does the Calathea Elgergrass - 70cm need?
Another nickname for the Calathea is the 'shade plant'. Because the Calathea Elgergrass grows up in the tropics in the shade of taller plants and trees, it doesn't cope well with direct sunlight. Give the Calathea Elgergrass a spot in the shade, or a spot in bright indirect light with shade during the day. That's where the Calathea will come into its own and stay at its best.
Is the Calathea Elgergrass - 70cm toxic?
No, like most Calathea species, the Elgergrass is not toxic to children or pets.
