Product Description

The Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm is a rugged yucca with a rough trunk and a crown of firm, grey-green leaves. Fine white threads curl along the leaf edges, which is where the species gets its name. These threads give the plant a special, slightly wild look that lights up beautifully when the sun shines through.

At 170 cm this is a mature specimen with a thick trunk and a large, full crown. A real eye-catcher as a solitary plant in the garden, by the driveway or in a large planter on the patio. Smaller and larger sizes from 70 to 210 cm are also available. Combine it with grasses, lavender or other Mediterranean plants for a southern atmosphere. You will find even more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

Care and tips for the Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm

The Yucca Filifera Australis is hardy down to about -15 °C, as long as it stays dry. Plant it in sandy, well-draining soil or give it a roomy, heavy pot with a generous drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a model sturdy enough for this size. It hardly needs feeding: an organic garden fertiliser in spring is enough. Trim dried leaves below the crown for a neat trunk. If it is in a pot, place it on pot feet in winter and preferably against a sheltered wall.

Water needs of the Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm

This drought lover needs little water. During the growing season, water about once or twice a week, and only when the soil is properly dry. A plant in a pot dries out faster than one in the ground, so check the pot a little more often in warm spells. In winter it needs hardly any water. Never let water stand in the saucer, because wet roots are the biggest risk for this plant.

Light needs of the Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm

Give it the sunniest spot you have, ideally facing south or west. In full sun the plant stays compact and the leaves get their best colour. It also grows in partial shade, but a bit more slowly and less full.

Is the Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm toxic?

The Yucca Filifera Australis is mildly toxic if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and young children.

How is my Yucca Filifera Australis garden plant - 170 cm shipped?

Your plant is delivered in a nursery pot and, because of its size, transported securely fastened on a pallet. That way it arrives safely and fresh from the grower.
