Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl are bulbs of a small botanical tulip with deep purple, graceful flowers. They stay low, roughly 10 to 15 centimetres. Botanical tulips are close to the wild species and, thanks to their low growth, are hardly bothered by wind and rain.

The bulbs are size 6/7, small but normal for this species. They suit the front of the border, large pots and the lawn, where they can naturalise. With 25 bulbs you fill a wide pot of about 30 centimetres, with 50 bulbs a spot at the front of the border. With 100 or 200 bulbs you create a strip in the grass; allow 75 to 100 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other early-flowering tulip bulbs, such as other botanical tulips. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in March and April, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl flower?

The Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl flower early in spring, in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. Unlike many large tulips, these botanical tulips reliably return every year. In a sunny spot they like, they slowly spread and naturalise, in grass too.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 8 to 10 centimetres deep and around 5 centimetres apart. This small tulip likes well-drained, preferably somewhat sandy or gritty soil; in heavy, wet soil the bulbs will rot. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food. If they grow in the lawn, only mow that spot once the foliage has completely died back. Feeding is hardly necessary; a little bulb fertiliser in early spring is plenty.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. This tulip opens its flowers wide in the sun and closes them in the evening and in cloudy weather. In partial shade they flower less freely and hardly spread, so choose a warm, open spot.

Are the Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Persian Pearl be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
