Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs are extra-large bulbs of double daffodils in yellow and white. Instead of a single trumpet, each flower has a full rosette of petals, so it looks more like a small peony than a classic daffodil. The plants grow to about 35 to 45 centimetres tall and give off a soft scent. They are fully hardy.

With bulb size 12/14 you get the heaviest bulbs of this mix. A larger bulb has stored more reserves and therefore produces sturdier stems, fuller flowers and often two or more flower stems per bulb. They look lovely in the border, in pots and containers and naturalised in grass or under trees. With 10 bulbs you fill a pot of about 30 centimetres, with 20 bulbs a generous group in the border. With 40 or 80 bulbs you create a continuous strip along the path or a patch in the lawn; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with single-flowered daffodil bulbs for a nice contrast in flower shape. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs?

Plant them between mid-October and the end of November, once the soil has dropped below 10 °C. The bulbs then form roots without producing leaves yet. As long as it is not freezing, December is fine too. They need the winter cold to flower, so planting in spring makes no sense.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs flower?

They flower in March and April. A flower stays beautiful for about two weeks, and because the large bulbs often produce several stems, flowering lasts a little longer per group. In a pot in a warm spot they flower earlier, after a cold spring later. For the vase, keep them separate for one night first, because their sap makes other flowers wilt sooner. If you let the foliage die back, they return and slowly spread.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs

Plant the bulbs pointed end up at a depth of about 15 centimetres, slightly deeper than ordinary daffodil bulbs, and 10 to 12 centimetres apart. Any well-drained garden soil is suitable. In a pot, first add a layer of gravel or clay pebbles; you will find a suitable pot among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, cut off the spent flowers and leave the foliage until it turns yellow. A handful of bulb fertiliser when the shoots appear is enough.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs

In open ground, rain usually provides enough moisture; only in a very dry autumn should you water thoroughly once after planting. In a pot, feel the soil weekly in spring and water when the top layer is dry. Never leave water in the saucer, or the bulbs will rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs

Place them in full sun; there the double flowers reach their fullest shape and the stems stay sturdy. They also flower under deciduous trees, because enough light still reaches the ground there in March and April.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs are toxic if ingested, the bulb most of all. Keep bulbs, leaves and flowers out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin; wear garden gloves when planting and cutting.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Double mix XL bulbs be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
