Product Description
The Crocus bulbs White are bulbs of a large-flowered crocus with cup-shaped flowers in pure white to softly tinted shades. They grow about 10 to 12 centimetres tall and light up brightly in the still bare garden. This crocus naturalises easily and returns every year with more flowers.
The corms are size 7/8, a generous size that produces several flowers per corm. They do well in pots, at the front of the border and above all under trees and shrubs, where they can spread undisturbed. With 30 bulbs you plant a pot or bowl, with 60 bulbs a ring around a tree. Choose 120 or 240 bulbs for a white carpet under a group of shrubs or in grass; allow 100 to 150 bulbs per square metre. White looks lovely next to purple or yellow crocus bulbs, but also as a calm patch on its own. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Crocus bulbs White?
Plant the Crocus bulbs White in autumn, from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has dropped below 10 °C. That way the corms can still root before the frost. As long as the ground is not frozen, planting in December also works. A cold winter period is essential for crocuses to flower, so planting in spring makes no sense.
When do the Crocus bulbs White flower?
The Crocus bulbs White flower from February to April. A group gives about two to three weeks of flowers, as each corm produces a few blooms one after another. In a warm, sheltered spot or in a pot near the house they often open earlier, while a cold spring delays flowering a little. Under trees and in grass they multiply by themselves, so the white patch grows larger every year.
Care and tips Crocus bulbs White
Plant the corms 8 to 10 centimetres deep, about two to three times their height, pointed end up and 5 to 8 centimetres apart. Under trees, loosen the top layer first, as the soil between the roots is often hard. Crocuses ask little of the soil, as long as it lets water through. A pot needs a drainage hole with a layer of gravel or clay pebbles above it; in our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a pot to match. Do not cut anything back after flowering and let the foliage yellow naturally; this is how the corms recharge for next year. A handful of bulb fertiliser at planting time is enough.
Water needs of the Crocus bulbs White
In the garden, natural rainfall is usually sufficient. Under trees, where the soil dries out faster, give some extra water once after planting if the autumn is dry. In a pot, water as soon as the leaves appear and the top few centimetres feel dry. Always let excess water drain away, because soil that is too wet makes the corms rot.
Light needs of the Crocus bulbs White
The Crocus bulbs White prefer to stand in the sun. Under deciduous trees and shrubs they also get enough light in early spring, because there are no leaves on the branches yet. Only in deep, permanent shade, such as under conifers, do they flower poorly.
Are the Crocus bulbs White toxic?
The Crocus bulbs White are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the corm. Plant and store them out of reach of pets and young children. If you have sensitive skin, wear gloves while planting.
How will my Crocus bulbs White be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
