Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Pink-Red are bulbs of a tulip with flowers in pink and red. They grow to roughly 35 to 45 centimetres tall. The two warm shades strengthen each other and bring plenty of colour to the garden early in the season. They do well in the vase too; for cut flowers, cut them when the buds are just showing colour.

The bulbs are size 10/12 and each produce one flower. They suit the border, the edge of a path and pots on the patio. With 40 bulbs you fill two large pots or a generous spot in the border, with 80 bulbs a strip along the path. With 160 or 320 bulbs you can plant a whole bed or a large cutting row; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs that flower in March and April, for example a white variety that makes the pink and red stand out even more. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in March and April, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red flower?

The Tulip bulbs Pink-Red flower early in the tulip season, in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they will return next spring.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Pink-Red

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, only cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food for next year. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn or early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the colours look their best. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.

Are the Tulip bulbs Pink-Red toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Pink-Red are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Pink-Red be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
