Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs February Gold are bulbs of an early daffodil with golden-yellow flowers. Each flower has a yellow trumpet and slightly swept-back petals, giving it a graceful character. The plants grow to around 30 centimetres tall on sturdy stems. February Gold belongs to the Cyclamineus daffodils, a group known for early flowering and strong, compact growth.

The bulbs are size 10/12. Plant them in the border, along the path, in pots on the patio or in groups in the lawn and under trees, where they naturalise after a few years. With 15 bulbs you fill a pot of about 30 centimetres, with 30 bulbs a good-sized spot in the border. With 60 or 120 bulbs you can create a whole bed or a yellow strip beneath the trees; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other daffodil bulbs that flower later, so you have daffodils in the garden from February into May. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs February Gold?

Plant the Daffodil bulbs February Gold from mid-October to the end of November, as soon as the soil is colder than 10 °C. Preferably plant early in that period, as this daffodil starts into growth early in the year. As long as it is not freezing, you can still plant in December. The bulbs need a cold period to form flower buds, so waiting until spring is pointless.

When do the Daffodil bulbs February Gold flower?

The Daffodil bulbs February Gold flower from February to April, making them one of the first daffodils of the season. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot against a warm wall the first flowers sometimes appear in early February, after a harsh winter not until March. As a cut flower they hold up well in the vase thanks to their sturdy stems; just keep them separately in water for a night first.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs February Gold

Set the bulbs pointed end up at a depth of about 10 to 12 centimetres, with 8 to 10 centimetres between them. Loose, well-drained soil is ideal; on clay, a handful of sand or compost in the planting hole helps. Give pots a drainage hole and a layer of clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you are sure to find a suitable pot. After flowering, remove the faded flowers and leave the foliage for about six more weeks so the bulb can build up strength. On poor soil, scatter a little bulb fertiliser in early spring.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs February Gold

Bulbs in the garden usually manage with the rain that falls. If the autumn is dry, give them one good soaking after planting. In pots the soil dries out faster: check weekly in spring and water when the top few centimetres feel dry. Make sure excess water can drain away, because standing water makes the bulbs rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs February Gold

Choose a spot in the sun. That is where the flowers open widest and the colour stays brightest. They also do well under deciduous trees, because plenty of light still reaches the ground there in February and March.

Are the Daffodil bulbs February Gold toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs February Gold are toxic if ingested; the bulb contains most of the toxic substances. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. Wear garden gloves when planting and picking, as the sap can irritate the skin.

How will my Daffodil bulbs February Gold be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
