Product Description

The Ranunculus bulbs mix are tubers of ranunculus with many-layered, double flowers in soft pink, radiant yellow, deep red and pure white. The plants grow to around 30 to 40 centimetres tall. With dozens of thin, almost papery petals, each flower resembles a small rose, and thanks to their long, sturdy stems ranunculus make excellent cut flowers.

The tubers are size 5/6 and have the typical shape of small claws; each one produces several flowers in succession. They look lovely in a pot on the patio or balcony, at the front of the border or in a row for cutting. With 40 pieces you fill a few roomy pots or a balcony box, with 80 pieces a spot in the border. With 160 or 320 pieces you can plant a whole bed or a cutting strip; allow 30 to 50 pieces per square metre. Combine them with other flower bulbs that are planted in spring, such as anemones. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Ranunculus bulbs mix?

Ranunculus are planted in spring. Plant the Ranunculus bulbs mix in March or April, once the harshest night frosts are over. Soak the claws in lukewarm water for three to four hours beforehand so they root faster. For early flowers, start them from February in small pots in a light, cool and frost-free place. Do not plant them in autumn, because the tubers are not winter-hardy.

When do the Ranunculus bulbs mix flower?

The Ranunculus bulbs mix flower between March and June. Exactly how early depends on when you plant: plants started in a pot open first, claws planted outdoors about three months after planting. A plant keeps forming new buds for weeks, and a single flower stays attractive for about a week, often longer in a vase. Because they are not hardy, they do not return by themselves.

Care and tips Ranunculus bulbs mix

Place the claws with the 'legs' pointing down, about 5 centimetres deep and 10 to 15 centimetres apart. Ranunculus want loose, humus-rich soil that drains well; lighten heavy clay with sand and compost. A pot needs holes in the base and a layer of gravel; you will find suitable models among our outdoor pots and baskets. Remove spent flowers so new buds keep coming, and for the vase cut stems whose bud already shows colour. From the first buds onwards, give some liquid flower feed every two weeks. To keep the tubers, lift them once the foliage has died back and store them dry and frost-free.

Water needs of the Ranunculus bulbs mix

Water generously once after planting and then sparingly until the first shoots appear; in soil that is too wet the claws rot. Growing and flowering plants need more: keep the soil lightly moist and water about twice a week in dry weather. Compost in a pot dries out faster, and excess water must always be able to drain away there.

Light needs of the Ranunculus bulbs mix

Ranunculus flower most freely in the sun. With plenty of light the stems stay sturdy and the flowers open fully. They do like cool roots; in a warm summer, a spot with morning sun and some shelter during the hottest part of the afternoon is ideal.

Are the Ranunculus bulbs mix toxic?

The Ranunculus bulbs mix are mildly toxic if ingested, as are the leaves and flowers. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when planting.

How will my Ranunculus bulbs mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
