Product Description

The Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix are corms of the ranunculus (Ranunculus asiaticus) in soft pastel colours. They produce densely double, rose-like flowers with layer upon layer of thin petals, on stems of around 30 to 40 centimetres. Ranunculus are exceptional cut flowers that stay beautiful in a vase for well over a week.

Size 5/6 means generous corms that each form a full plant. They look lovely in the border, in decorative pots on the patio or balcony and in a row in the cutting garden. With 40 corms you fill a few roomy pots or a spot in the border, with 80 a strip along the path. With 160 or 320 corms you plant a whole bed or a cut-flower bed; allow 40 to 50 per square metre. Combine them with other flower bulbs that you plant in spring, such as dahlias or gladioli, for colour well into summer. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix?

You plant the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix in spring, not in autumn like tulips and daffodils. Ranunculus are not hardy and cannot withstand frost. First soak the corms in lukewarm water for three to four hours so that they swell. From February you can pre-sprout them in small pots indoors or in a cold greenhouse and move them outside after the last night frost. Planting directly in the garden is possible from late March to mid-May.

When do the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix flower?

The stated flowering period of the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix is March to May. They only flower that early if you pre-sprout them in a greenhouse or in a bright, frost-free spot. Planted outdoors, the first flowers appear about ten to twelve weeks after planting. A plant keeps flowering for three to four weeks, especially if you pick flowers regularly. Outdoors, ranunculus usually do not survive the winter.

Care and tips Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix

Plant the corms with the 'claws' pointing down, about 5 centimetres deep, two to three times their height, and 10 to 15 centimetres apart. They like airy, humus-rich soil that drains well. For a pot, choose a model with a drainage hole and put a layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the bottom; you will find suitable pots among our outdoor pots and baskets. Remove spent flowers and the plant will form new buds. During growth, give some liquid feed for flowering plants every two weeks. When the foliage turns yellow after flowering, you can lift the corms, let them dry and store them frost-free for next year.

Water needs of the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix

Water once right after planting and then sparingly until the first leaves appear; soil that is too wet makes the corms rot. As soon as the plant is growing, keep the soil evenly moist, especially in a pot and in warm weather. Never leave water in the saucer.

Light needs of the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix

Give the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix a spot in full sun, with at least six hours of direct light a day. There the stems grow sturdy and the double flowers open fully. They also grow in partial shade, but with fewer flowers and weaker stems.

Are the Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix toxic?

The Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix are mildly toxic if ingested, like other members of the buttercup family. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when planting and cutting.

How will my Ranunculus bulbs Pastel mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
