Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs are a colourful mix of Greigii tulips, botanical tulips with elegantly mottled and striped leaves. The flowers in various colours sit on short, sturdy stems and the plants stay compact, at around 20 to 30 centimetres tall. As a result they are hardly bothered by wind and rain.

These bulbs have a bulb size of up to 14 cm in circumference, on average larger than the standard size 11/12. Because they stay low, they look lovely along the path, at the front of the border or in a pot on the patio. With 40 bulbs you fill a few roomy pots, with 80 bulbs a strip at the front of the border. With 160 or 320 bulbs you can plant a whole bed or the sunny edge of a natural garden; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. They go beautifully with other early tulip bulbs, such as a plain red Greigii tulip among the mixed colours. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs?

Plant the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs in autumn, preferably between mid-October and the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs then root calmly without producing leaves yet. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can still plant in December. The winter cold is needed for flowering, so planting in spring is pointless.

When do the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs flower?

Greigii tulips are among the early tulips and flower from March into April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks, and the patterned leaves are decorative before and for a while after flowering. In a pot in a sheltered spot they open sooner, after a cold March a little later. In a sunny spot with well-drained soil they often return for years and can naturalise.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs

Set the bulbs pointed end up about 10 to 12 centimetres deep and 8 centimetres apart. They grow best in airy, well-drained soil; improve heavy clay with some coarse sand. A pot needs a hole in the bottom and a layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the base; you will find suitable models among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, remove the faded flowers and leave the leaves until they turn yellow, so the bulb can store new reserves. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs

In the garden, rain usually provides enough moisture; only after a dry autumn should you give a good soaking after planting. Pots dry out faster: keep the compost lightly moist from the moment the leaves appear and water about once a week. Make sure excess water can always drain away, because bulbs rot in wet soil.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs

These tulips want full sun, at least six hours a day. In the sun the flowers open wide; in cloudy weather and in the evening they close again. In too much shade flowering stays modest.

Are the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so preferably wear garden gloves.

How will my Tulip bulbs Greigii mix XL bulbs be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
