Product Description
The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs are bulbs of Tête-à-Tête, the well-known yellow dwarf daffodil. The plants stay low and compact, about 15 to 20 centimetres, and carry small golden-yellow trumpet flowers, often two or three to a stem. They are hardy and among the first daffodils of the year.
These bulbs have a bulb size of up to 12 cm in circumference, on average larger than the standard size 10/11. They are ideal for pots, balcony boxes and the edge of the border, and they naturalise in grass or under trees. With 50 bulbs you fill a few pots and boxes for patio and balcony. With 100 bulbs you create a yellow edge along the path or the border. With 200 or 400 bulbs you can naturalise a stretch of lawn or a spot under shrubs; for this small daffodil allow 60 to 80 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with taller daffodil bulbs that flower later. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs?
Plant the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs between mid-October and the end of November, once the soil has cooled below 10 °C. The bulbs then still form roots before winter but do not sprout too early. If the ground is not frozen, you can plant into December. For their early flowering the bulbs need a cold winter, so spring planting is not a good idea.
When do the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs flower?
The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs flower from February to April, depending on the weather. In a pot against a sunny wall the first flowers can open by mid-February; after a hard winter flowering only starts in March. Each flower stays beautiful for about three weeks, and because a bulb often produces several stems one after another, flowering per clump lasts a long time. Let the foliage die back after flowering and they will return every year and spread.
Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs
Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 10 centimetres deep and 5 to 8 centimetres apart. Ordinary, well-drained garden soil is fine. In a pot or box, first add a layer of gravel or clay pebbles for drainage; you will find a suitable pot among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, remove the spent little flowers and leave the foliage until it yellows. A small amount of bulb fertiliser in early spring is sufficient.
Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs
In the garden, rainwater is enough for them. Only after planting in a dry autumn should you water once. In pots and boxes the soil dries out faster: water about once a week from the moment the tips are visible. Make sure excess water can drain away, as the bulbs rot in wet soil.
Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs
They flower best in full sun, where the flowers open first. They also do well under deciduous trees, because plenty of light still falls there in February and March.
Are the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs toxic?
The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs are toxic if ingested, especially the bulb. Keep pots and boxes out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so use garden gloves when planting.
How will my Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête XL bulbs be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
