Product Description

The Crocus bulbs mix are a colourful mix of purple, white, yellow and striped crocuses. They are large-flowered crocuses of around 10 to 12 centimetres tall, with sturdy cups that together create a cheerful, varied picture. Because they multiply every year, this mix is an easy way to bring colour back to the garden each spring.

All corms are size 7/8 and each produce a few flowers. Put them in pots and planters on the balcony or patio, in the front row of the border, or let them naturalise in the lawn and under trees. With 70 bulbs you plant a few planters or a generous spot next to the patio, with 140 bulbs a long edge along a path or border. For a flowering lawn or a wide strip under trees, 280 or 560 bulbs are the best choice; you need 100 to 150 per square metre. If you want one colour to stand out more, add some single-colour crocus bulbs in that shade. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Crocus bulbs mix?

The Crocus bulbs mix are best planted between mid-October and the end of November, when the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. If there is no frost, you can also plant in December. The winter cold is needed to trigger flowering, so spring planting does not work.

When do the Crocus bulbs mix flower?

The Crocus bulbs mix flower from February to April. The different colours do not all open on the same day, so you can enjoy about three weeks of flowers. A pot against a warm wall is often a week ahead, while a harsh spring holds them back a little longer. New cormlets are added every year, so the patches of colour grow by themselves.

Care and tips Crocus bulbs mix

A good rule of thumb is two to three times the height of the corm: so plant them 8 to 10 centimetres deep, pointed end up and 5 to 8 centimetres apart. Light, free-draining soil is ideal; on wet clay, mix some coarse sand into the planting hole. Pots and planters need a hole in the bottom and a drainage layer of gravel; choose an attractive pot from our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, leave the foliage alone until it withers, and only mow the lawn six weeks later. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring supports growth for the next season.

Water needs of the Crocus bulbs mix

Extra water is rarely needed in open ground; rain and thaw provide enough moisture. After planting in an exceptionally dry autumn, give one good watering. In planters and pots the soil can dry out in spring, so water there when the soil feels dry. Water must always be able to drain away; if it stands, the corms will rot.

Light needs of the Crocus bulbs mix

A spot in full sun is ideal for the Crocus bulbs mix. There the flowers open wide and you see the stripes and colours at their best. Under deciduous trees they also do well, because in February and March plenty of light still falls between the bare branches.

Are the Crocus bulbs mix toxic?

The Crocus bulbs mix are mildly toxic if ingested, in particular the corms. Keep them away from pets and young children. A pair of garden gloves prevents skin irritation for people with sensitive skin.

How will my Crocus bulbs mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
