Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix are bulbs of botanical daffodils in white and sunny yellow. Botanical daffodils are close to their wild ancestors: their flowers are smaller and more graceful than those of the large garden daffodils, and the plants grow to around 30 to 40 centimetres tall. They are winter-hardy, return year after year and can naturalise in grass.

The bulbs are size 10/12. They suit the border, pots and containers on the patio and loose in the lawn, where they slowly spread into a natural-looking carpet. With 20 bulbs you fill a large pot or a spot by the front door, with 40 bulbs a generous group in the border. With 80 or 160 bulbs you can naturalise a stretch of lawn, a verge or a strip beneath shrubs; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other daffodil bulbs, such as a late variety for a longer season. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix?

Plant the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix from mid-October to the end of November, as soon as the soil temperature has dropped below 10 °C. If the ground is not yet frozen, December is still possible. Without a spell of winter cold the bulbs will not flower, so spring planting is pointless.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix flower in March and April. Each flower stays attractive for about two weeks. In a pot in a sunny, sheltered spot flowering starts earlier, after a cold spring later. If you cut them for the vase, keep them separate overnight first: the sap from the stems shortens the vase life of other flowers. Each year the bulbs form new offsets, so the group becomes fuller and fuller.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix

Set the bulbs pointed end up at a depth of about 10 to 12 centimetres, with 8 to 10 centimetres between them. Any well-drained garden soil is suitable. A pot needs a layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the bottom so excess water can drain away; you will find a suitable pot among our outdoor pots and baskets. Remove the faded flowers after flowering, but leave the foliage for about six weeks until it turns yellow. In the lawn, only mow once the leaves have died back. Feeding is rarely needed in open ground; give pots a little bulb fertiliser in spring.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix

Daffodils in the garden manage on rainwater. If the autumn after planting is very dry, give one thorough watering. Bulbs in a pot dry out faster: water about once a week from the moment the tips appear above the soil. Never let the pot stand in water, as the bulbs will rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix

They do best in full sun, where flowering is richest and the stems stay sturdy. A spot under deciduous trees or shrubs also works, because in March and April enough light still reaches the ground.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix are toxic if ingested; the bulb contains the most toxic substances. Keep bulbs and flowers out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear garden gloves when planting and when cutting flowers.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Botanical mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
